How I Consciously Stopped to Smell the Flowers This Spring

I’ve always felt that spring passed me by every year, so in an effort to be more mindful and present, I really went out of my way to observe the flowers and nature around me, and there’s no better place to do so than the New York Botanical Garden. Here are my highlights from my day trip up to the Bronx. Continue reading “How I Consciously Stopped to Smell the Flowers This Spring”

How I Achieve the Glass Skin Trend

There was a Korean beauty trend that went around last fall called “glass skin,” which is essentially that your face looks “clear, poreless, translucent, [and] luminous—like a piece of glass.”

After I figured out how to clear my skin, I knew this was something I wanted to try without buying new skincare products that might not react well with my face. I’ve been wearing less makeup and have been loving the look of dewy skin (especially now that it’s winter and my face is dry). Here are the steps and products I use to achieve “glass skin.” Continue reading “How I Achieve the Glass Skin Trend”

How I’ve Learned to Deal with a Bad Haircut

My journey with hair has been strange throughout my whole life, but for some reason I was cursed with bad haircuts for almost a solid two years. Tears were shed, tantrums were thrown—it hasn’t been pretty (and neither has my hair). Here, I will walk through exactly what I have done to cope and what I have learned along the way. Falling Out of a Seasonal Funk

The transition from summer to fall has always been the hardest for me and I’ve never understood why because fall is my favorite season.

I was feeling a bit down all September, so I really tried to sit in my thoughts to figure out how I can pull myself out of this funk because mental health is important to take care of and should never be overlooked. I’m happy to report that I’m in a much better place now, thankfully. Here’s what I did differently. Continue reading “Falling Out of a Seasonal Funk”

How to Remove Gel Polish at Home Without Foil

Anyone who knows me knows I love nail polish and often paint my own nails at home. However, there are the occasional times where I will treat myself to a gel manicure. It’s the same cycle for me every time: I love how it looks, then get sick of it after a week and feel the urge to remove it. I normally peel it off, and I know it’s so bad for your nails, but I don’t think soaking your fingers in pure acetone is any better. My nails usually look scraggly and dry after I peel off the gel polish and takes about a week for them to recover.

I went to get a gel manicure recently and told myself I would have it taken off professionally, but decided to just do it myself at home. I researched different ways and many of them involved the technique of wrapping aluminum foil around each finger with an acetone-soaked cotton ball situated on the nail for 10-15 minutes (this is the method I use to remove glitter nail polish). To my dismay, I ran out of foil and it was too late to go out and buy some. I kept researching and found the answer to my request. I have tweaked it a little and it works like a charm. Behold, my new favorite way to remove gel nail polish at home. Continue reading “How to Remove Gel Polish at Home Without Foil”

Summer Getaway to the Hamptons

I have always been fond of Long Island. It’s where I went for college and was my first home away from home once I left Hawaii. I finally had the opportunity to visit friends who live out in the Hamptons this summer, which has been on my list for quite some time, and it was truly nothing short of amazing. Here were my five favorite parts of this weekend getaway.  Continue reading “Summer Getaway to the Hamptons”

What I Learned About Myself at Dave Chappelle’s Phone-Less Show

I was fortunate enough to be given tickets to see one of Dave Chappelle’s shows during his August residency at Radio City Music Hall. Beyond being an amazing experience and the fact that he brought together legendary names to perform alongside him, the show did something unlike other shows I’ve been to: Chappelle banned all recording devices.
